Today is my parent's 31st annivesary. WhooooooooooooHooooooooooooo and counting. So here is the story. Now my dad came home late yesterday and was like. "Oh by the way Janine can you make a card for your mom for me to give to her on our Anniversary" I was looking cross eyed at my dad because it was like 10:30pm. "Daddy are you for real" He was like " yes" So I went to my room and started pulling out my paper and weird stuff I like to use and went to work. I didn't finish until about 12:30am. So my Dad gives her the card this morning and my mom is like " I knew Janine was making me a card, I told her I don't want any more store brought cards" I said Mama for real you knew I was making the card all this time" Needless to say she liked it and is not expecting another store brought card ever, she said it's a waste of money. Pressure on, Thanks Mommy!

Father's Day and Henna

This was mixed up on Saturday!

Ok so I thought I would try the Henna. I use to dye clothes with it so why not try it on my hair.

I but some coca powder to get close to a brown color. Well you can't really tell that i used the henna except for the fact that my two grey strands are kinda copper colored. It wasn't as messy as I thought as far as washing it out. Well I will try it again and see what happens. Maybe I will use a fresh batch next time.

So my mom and I took my Dad out for Father's day. He really wanted to go to Outback Steak House. hahahhahah so me and my mom took him to Outback.

Now it is coming to that time to get a new notebook. For me I carry a notebook everywhere I go, it's for taking notes and any other information I find. But i have had this since 04 and now I am getting down to the last pages. I feel really sad, I love this notebook, it tells me to follow my dreams and it documents what I have been doing for the past 7 years( Whoa that's a long time). I have found a replacement but I don't know I might still be looking for another notebook.

Graduation Time!!

I went to my nephew's graduation Last Thursday. It was quite emotional. One boy yelled out with his diploma in hand "LOOK MOM I DID IT" It was a small ceremony but I am glad I had the opportunity to attend.

Sunday was my pastors B-Day and it was requested for everyone to bring a card and if they wanted to to put something in it. So i was like awesome I can do that, mind you they said this for like two weeks. Saturday was a huge day for me. I shot a wedding and I had not shot one since like 07' so I was a little nerves, but the couple and their families were amazing! My second shooter was amazing! The videographer was amazing! So i guess you get it....hahahhaha it was amazing! So I was so tired Saturday I went home and crashed. Sunday arrives and I hear my alarm at 5am, now I was suppose to get up and make this card but I went right back to sleep until 7am. Shame Shame Shame I know. Church starts at 8am! So I got up, slowly I might add, took a shower and fix myself right and about time I was done with that, it was 8am. I had a decision to make leave now or make this card. If i didn't' make it then I knew it was done for, it wasn't getting made. So my pastor is awesome so I decide to make it! To make a long story short I was 40mins late for church, but I promise I didn't miss a thing. Service was awesome as usually!

Workshop Fun!

So yours truly has been asked to teach a workshop, a fashion workshop to be exact. But you know I am a fibers girl first so we will start with fibers first and work our way to fashion. I am kinda nervous though but very excited! Hopefully I can develop workshops like this for high schoolers or even teach it in high school someday I think it would be fun and I have a whole lot of information to give. We will see how it will go I will let you know how progress is going and the end result.

So 4Q is taking over my life..Hahahha in a good way. God has been blessing us with growth. So as it grows I must grow. So blogging was almost at a stand still has we started the spring Football 2011, I can not wait for the fall it's going to be awesome!! We have new additions and we have been reworking some things. Yea! So I will try and keep you updated.

Graduation Week!

So last week was crazy! I had Three cousins graduate and my niece oh and 2 girls from church that I watch grow up, and it was all from three different schools. Then on that Saturday I had to go to two graduation parties. I was so tired and so very proud. So all I have to say Congratulations and Welcome to the Adult world.

We were watching a slide show, I am just glad I didn't appear in it. whew!

Two of my babies have graduated from High school and one of my sweeties is going to the 10th grade ( single tear) They grow up so fast. Ummmm where do I begin ummmmmm. I guess I will start with my hair. So my hair is growing back more rapidly then I expected. Go Figure! No No this is a good thing. I have been asked by many if I am going to cut my hair off again and I usually answer if I feel like it. So a couple of reasons I have not cut my hair again:

1. I am just lazy. I really don't feel like going to the barber to get my hair cut every two weeks. Marlon is cool it's just I get bored with it.
2. People will stop grabbing my head, it's weird when I was bold ( well kinda bald) people could not refrain from grabbing or messaging or squeezing my head. Yes it was that creepy. The main reason " You have the perfect head for it. I have to touch it" I shake my head and say no but no means nothing to these people. Since I have let it grow out I have not had this problem anymore.
3. I want some COLOR. you can color a bald head but to me it would be pointless.
4. I like that i could twist my hair. I get bored with wearing my afro and when i had no hair but I could wear twist for a year if I could and not get tired of it.

Well now I am bored with this afro, I have waited patiently for growth so I can twist them again. I have been wearing these head covers lately so now it's time for the hair styles whoohooo.

Jacksonville Wedding

So the weekend that just passed, I went to Jacksonville for my younger cousin's wedding. When I say it was awesome! We stayed in an awesome hotel and all of my family was there. Now on the day of the wedding it rained and rained and rained and the wedding was suppose to be outside. Bummer right. Nope they moved into the reception area and it was even more beautiful. They also had one of those cakes like you see on the food network. I am so elated to have another addition to the family.

Well Mother's day was last weekend. I love my mommy and grandmothers so much. We had a great time. We took them out to eat and just enjoyed the company. But the night before I was up making Mother's day cards. Can I tell you my room looked like a hurricane came through, I had paper and glue and stickers everywhere. It was awesome to be in work mode like that once again. But they turned out great at least I think so and my mother and grandmother really like them and that's all that matters.

So today my friend call me up and told me about this art competition in town. It is called Big Bend Cares artopia. It has artist from around the area donate work for it to be bid ed on by the public. You pay for a ticket to get in and then you see all this work from local artist. All of the money goes to the Big Bend Cares Big Bend Cares provides education and comprehensive support to people infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Now I have to find or make some items to enter

Hello May! Well May has started out pretty good! Saturday ( yes this was April 30th not may) my home girl walked across the stage as a PhD Dr. Scott. ( I hope that is the correct way of saying it, lol if not leave me a comment correcting it please) We had a great time at her graduation party and her family was so proud of her. I can not wait to see what's to come. Then of course Sunday was, what else Church! The message like always was on point. " The point of no return". So Sunday also happen to be my cousin's b-day so about 2:30 I went to check her out at a softball game. Who knew she was in a league. I want to play! Well it was super hot out there but very relaxing. What a way to start a new month. Sunday was a good day.

I surly have been slacking on posting to my blog. I am so sorry about this. I haven't even done anything worth posting about and I stay so busy now, but no excuses I must do a better job in May. But until then some weekly wisdom from Christ notes.

Life is short... and it's not about us. Eternity is long... and it's all about God.

When God made the universe, he intended that everything in it would point praise back at Him. Every glittering star, every speck of sand, every ocean wave, every strand of DNA—everything was designed to declare how great God is. Even in making humanity, God really wasn't too concerned about us; he was thinking mostly about Himself. God was focused on how we would magnify and glorify Him (see Isaiah 43:7).

God is most concerned about Himself. In essence, God approaches every decision with this question: "What would bring me the most glory and honor and what would make me look the best in this situation?" Then he acts accordingly.

God declares, "I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols" (Isaiah 42:8). God made everything, and He made all of it to give glory to Himself.

We far too easily forget the truth that this entire universe is about God, and instead we try to hijack the spotlight to focus on us. We spend our short, little 60, 70, or 80 years here on Earth trying to make much of us, forgetting that all of creation is designed to make much of God.

God made you for a purpose, and He sent Jesus Christ into this world to invite you to join His purpose for your life, which is to magnify His name. So, don't waste your life magnifying something that is like a wisp of vapor or a puff of smoke, which is visible for a little while and then disappears into thin air. Instead, leverage your life as part of the eternal story of God—a story in which every second lifts up and magnifies God.

JOY comes by putting Jesus first, Others second, and Yourself last.

Everyone wants to enjoy life. Many people place the source of their joy in what they own, in their reputation, in their status, or in other worldly things. Yet, all of those things are unstable and can easily evaporate, taking joy with them. In the end, we will depart this world just as we entered it--with nothing (Ecclesiastes 5:15). So, although all of these sensual pleasures may provide short-term happiness, they clearly fail to provide genuine, lasting joy (Ecclesiastes 2:10-11).

On the other hand, true joy is offered in Christ. In John 10:10, Jesus said, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." Living life to the full includes living it overflowing with joy.

It's no wonder that the psalmist wrote, you will fill me with joy in your presence (Psalm 16:11). And You have filled my heart with greater joy ... (Psalm 4:7).

In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus quoted the first few verses of Isaiah 61 and applied it to Himself. In Isaiah 61:3, that quote continues by saying that he (in this case, Jesus) came to provide for those who grieve in Zion -- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

One of the side effects of Jesus coming to Earth was that we could have lasting joy. Indeed, the gladness and joy that so many people so desperately want can be found only in Jesus.

Sooooo last Saturday was the longest day ever. I had to shoot a invitational track meet by myself, I am still going through the footage. Anyway, after the meet I was in the mood for a real fruit slush at Sonic's, how much real fruit is used was not my concern hahhahah, It's about 8pm I pull up to a little station and was like SWEET it's like a few cars I should get this in no time and get home to relax. Wrong so I press the button and waited like 5 min, no answer, not even a hold on or I will get to you in a like a second. Then after another minute passed I back out and move to another station, same thing. What in the world, we are just ignoring customers now. I was really wanted that Fruit slushy. Thanks Sonics for not aiding me in relaxing after a long day on my feet, I had to settle for a vanilla coke.

Now Thursday Night was sweet! I went to the senior artshow competition at Leymone Art Gallery. Some of my sweeties from S.A.I.L. high school had entries and my other sweetie Ms. Sydney had a photo entry also. It's amazing to see the work that these teenagers produce. I was not thinking like this when I was 17-18 years old. I was able to see my old high school art teachers and talk with them about the work I was doing and what their kids are learning. It was a fabulous night!

Natural Hair Tragedy

So I know I have been slacking on my posting. I only had 3 post for the month of Feburary...yikes! I have had two people call me and come up to me to ask me when am I going to update my blog...hahahahah. I am glad somebody's reading it. Well Let's start from the sunday before last. So I was in church from like 8am until 2pm ( not the same service :)) I went to my services and sunday school and then headed over to my cousin's church for their youth day program. My cousin was he speaker...yea....I was so proud of him and would not have missed the opportunity to hear him speak for the first time. So after Church I headed to the FSU womens basketball game. It was the last home game of the season and my dad scored me some tickets... awesome game, they beat clemson. Yes I had a busy sunday.

Ok Ok Ok so I have been slacking on my post. To be honest there really hasn't been anything i felt like making a post about, I guess that's kinda bad huh! I do have something today. Well here at good ole FAMU we have this Series of Art Education and perfomance shows we do through out the school year, It's called the Lyceum Series. We have had Maya Angelou, Nat Adderly Jr, Kathleen Battle, The black violin and Savion Glover for this 2010-2011 school year. Sigh, unfortuantly I wasn't able to see anything from the series this year. Last year I went to see Wynton Marsalis. It was Awesome! I did get to meet Savion Glover, Yea! He had a meet and greet the day of his performance. That alone was good enough for me. I could just hear him speak. He was super nice and took pictures with everyone there and sign autographs with a smile and thank yous. I am glad had a chance to meet him even if it was briefly.

The song is called "I Believe" I just found it, so I am not sure how long it's been out. It's a great testimony of God. You have to first believe that you can make it out of the storm before you are delivered out. Our words and Thoughts are so very powerful and when use in connection and in relationship with God we are powerful beyond our own expectations. I hope this song lifts your spirits and inspire you to keep pushing through.

So it's been ummmmm 5 weeks since I had my hair done by my wonderful cousin, and i have like all this new growth, I am trying to make this last until March. I hope I can do it. Well I have been using black onyx hair growth oil, I love it, I wonder if that is what is causing this crazy hair growth. Ummmmmmm. Well here is how I have been trying to style my hair.

Sorry I have been gone for a two weeks. I actually had stuff to blog about I just hadn't got to putting it up. I have nothing super special, just some things I have been doing . Well the first Friday of every month here in Tallahassee is First Friday. From previous post you know I love these Fridays when all the galleries stay open late and Railroad square is poppin' with galleries shows vintage shops and entertainment, oh yeah and a bunch are art lovers and artist. Ooooooo I love Art. Well this time I didn't get to go to railroad square but I went to some of the other galleries around town. It wasn't exciting as Railroad square, but cool no the less. This time my little homies didn't roll out with me in the cold to look at art, but my cousin did. I hope she had a good time. I told her welcome to my world and she just smiled

We went to Bonefish Grill afterwards, I think I look like a straight up girl from the 80's that night.

What a great night! I love First Fridays I can 't wait until February.

So What a productive Tuesday! I accomplished everything on my list. This is a rare feat for me. I visited my dear friend and teacher and that made me feel 10 times happier and motivated after talking with her. She sent me like loads of Fiber art information. Oooooooo I am so excited and Fiber Crunk now.

Sunday was pretty drab looking too. But it was a great day because my little cousin got baptised and most of our family was their to see it. I am so proud of her. God is really going to do some great things with her. I am so proud of you Miracle!

So my sister and Brother in law cause a problem with that steelers' gear they got my dad for Christmas. But a day after my dad wore it the deal or transfer got a hole in it. I was upset! This shirt was from the official NFL Site and they but this cheap Heat transfer on a super nice cotton T-shirt. Best be believing my sister got her money back. I could have done that and better.

This is after the hole. I decided to take it off. It looked horrible after he washed it.

Oh and it came off with no problems. This was so disappointing!

Oh yeah I got my hair done during Christmas, My cousin did it.

Well kinda like last time. I went to get a pedicure at the end of the year. Well really the first of the year. My sister was suppose to come along with my mom and I but she was really tired. The really bad part about getting this done on Saturday January 1, 2011 was that it rained as soon as we left, Bummer. Well at least my feet were soft and pretty. Yea for me!

Yes hello 2011. I can say I feel much better in 2011. When I went into 2010 I was feeling beat down and things just were not going well at all. Now in 2011 I feel great and am ready for opportunities and carving paths. I attribute this attitude to the lessons I learned and the people I met in 2010. So reflection time.

Lesson 1: *You can choose to be or not to be* I will explain. A lot of times I just get very overwhelmed with my own emotions ( I am a very emotional person). I allow them to over take me and I began to respond according to my feelings. What I realized after much prayer and meditating, is that I can choose weather I want to take on an emotion. So if I start getting angry, because we are human we do get angry, I can choose if I want to stay angry. This is burden lifting for me. I can choose not to be mad. So just because something happens to me that i don't like I don't have to mad, angry, upset or bitter about it I can make a hard decision to not give into my feelings and tell myself we will not be over taken by these negative feelings.

Lesson 2: * The story doesn't always end up the way you expect it too, accept it and adjust* We have ( or I have) a drawn out plan of how things are suppose to be. Last year when I say ever kinda a plan got smashed to pieces. Now I was very disappointed and mad, but what i realized( as time went on) is that how you adjust to a change in plan or a totally new direction builds character. I would like to know for being able to adjust to the unthinkable and the unexpected rather then anytime something doesn't go my way I freak out.

Lesson 3: * Just because you mess up or make a bad decision it is not the end* Yes I make mistakes and sometimes it looks like that would be the mistake that would do me in, but God. Yes But God. All through 2010 I felt like I was going to pay for some decisions I made and had to learn that I can still accomplish the goal it's just I would have to take another way because I have reached a dead end or totally destroyed the path I was traveling on. Some time the journey takes longer because of something we have done, but God makes sure we get to the goal that he originally wanted accomplished.

Now 2010 introduce me to some brand new people that made some impact on me and I am so honored to have had the experience of their company and time.

Ms. Kim: I think I met Ms. Kim in July. She is amazing! She runs this after school program for young girls and exposes them to all kinds of things. Cultural, Fashion, Traveling, Spas Dances, Mother/Daughter talks, Father/ Daughter Fun, and then she tutors them and makes sure they get their homework done and she teaches them new subjects in the process. Now I don't even think I am doing her justice with the descriptions at the top. I talk with her as often as I can. She use to run a business and do graphics crafts, anything you name it. I love just talking with her, she inspires me with ever conversation I have with her. This is one person that I am glad to have the honor of knowing.

Ms. Tasha: So Meeting ms. Tasha has kept me a little more interested in Facebook, only because that is where I met her. I have been inspired ever since. She is passionate and hard working. I really enjoy our conversations and just like Ms. Kim she is an awesome women of God. She is really funny and very photogenic. Oh not to mention a great photographer, I have learn more from her then she would ever know.

2010 Thanks for the lessons! Well let's get started 2011 !

I have been working on keeping my skin well moisturised. I have eczema and have been having a terrible bout with my dry skin. So after reading and staying on blogs i just started being diligent and consistent on the products I used. So this is nothing different then what is out there on You tube and other blogs. So my skin feels 100 times better and it's really soft too! So my homegirl who I love dearly asked me to help her and since I live on side of the US and she lives on the other side I decided to make this video for her. Soooooooooooooooo Homie this is for you, Haahahahah I hope you like it and I hope it does help.

My new favorite blog now is Moptop Maven, it is full of so much information and just healthy living. It's funny I think I found this blog at the beginning of the year and now just looking at how far it's come. It's amazing. I have already learned so much from her blog.

A Night of Basketball

Enjoyed some great Basketball last night. Unfortunately it was from the other teams and not our local teams and when I got home UConn was losing to Stanford. At last the streak was broken. UConn has lost there first game in 2 years and Stanford I think stands undefeated. Great game Stanford you deserve your win. UConn just get ready for the playoffs.

So my cousin but together this lunch gathering for my best friend coming into town. Now I expected certain people to be there, ya know like maybe 10 people. When I got there it was like 20 people. I was like WOW! I hadn't seen some of the girls in like 10 years and some I knew of but did not know well. I was amazed that she was able to get all of these people together. I had a great time catching up and trippin out. You know it's going to be a good time if you haven't seen some of your homegirls since you were 18years old and you are now 28years old. Oooooooooooo yes I had a great time.

State championships

Whew! I have been gone for like two weeks, but I am back to make the last post for 2010. I think I have about 5. So here we go. 4Q traveled to Orlando for the state championship game. One of our local teams made it to the State Championship game and of course we were going to be there with the laptop, camera and Flip Camera. This was the 18th of this month .Can I tell you it rained and rained and rained. I thought I was not going to be able to shoot, but when it was game time the rain went away. Yea!!!!!!!!Through out all the rain they pulled out a victory over a team that was undefeated and ranked 6th in the nation. Don't you just love an underdog story. I was so honored and ecstatic to have witnessed it. Ahhhhhh 4Q is taking me places.

I was really hating my hair this week, It was looking like ughhhhh. So under that wrap is some large two strand twist, which is known to some how I don't like how a chunky twist out looks on my head. hey I still rocked it though.

I am enjoying press box food. HAhaahha this clearly after the game because I usually on see the press box a few time during a game because I am on the field most of the time. Oh and that's Will from the local news paper in Tallahassee. (whispering) He hurt himself playing soccer this was the first day with out the cast.

This is well after the game. Djawa is watching basketball on his phone and he was paying me no attention.

We are about to leave. We had a pretty good time.

Finally Finally leaving the Citrus Bowl. We had been there since 11am and we didn't leave until 7pm and we didn't get back home until 11pm. A long fun day

Holiday benefit Mixer 2010

Saturday was a pretty good day. First Friday was 4Q for the playoffs. We have one team from the area that made it to state. My arch rival when I was in high school. Hahaahha but he that was like 10 years ago so I am proud that we have a team from Tallahassee representing and the head Coach is a young black young man that my mother use to teach in high school. So the we are all in support of him. Now to Saturday. My Homies, I love them so much, we have been homies since like freshman year in high school and we love them like family. They are trying to do this annually, but they put on this holiday benefit mixer ever year, I think this is the third year they have done this event. It was a social event with free food and drinks and all you had to do was bring a toy. The toys go to kids whose parents or parent is incarcerated. This particular one is really close to my heart where I was apart of this angel network at my home church and we did that gift giving to those kids and one of them was going to our church and I talk with her often. So I was the one that picked her name. It was cool too because I picked her up one day and took to window shopping and I ended up getting most of the clothes that she liked. It was really nice. Brad and Joey keep up the good work. I can't wait until next year.

So let me update ya on a post I made like in March( Coach Natalie Randoph). It was about a Female High football coach at Coolidge High. I just wanted to see how the season went for her. Of course it was a big deal for her first game of the season, and they lost, OUCH! Well she is 30 years old around the ages of other male coaches when they start out so hey you can't expect a miracle for the first game, but read the article here. She's young and it's her first head coaching position. I give her another year and no on is going to think about the fact that she is a women coaching High school Football. Here is a link to there schedule and their record was 4-7 sooo ummm. It's alright Coach Randoph, you won some conference games and it's your first year. It will get better. I am ready to see what goes on with her team next season.

BIRTHDAY!!!!

Sooooooo last Saturday was my birthday. Yes another year older. I am a wonder 28years of age now. Thank you God! Well I will let the pictures tell the story

First the night before, after game night the staff and I went to Applebees, Ummm I forgot they do embarrassing stuff at restaurants when it's your birthday. I should have remembered! They embarrassed me the whole night making out burst like "Happy Birthday Janine Whooooohoooo and then the "Happy Happy Birthday" chicks came to the table and did the long version of the song " Anyway the next morning my Dad took me to village inn for Daddy Daughter breakfast and we had soooooo much fun and made conversation with each group of people that sat next to us. First a couple that grew Christmas trees( did you know it take like 15 years to grow a Christmas tree) then a mother and her kids sat next to us and she did like some freelance crime stuff and catering and something else but I can't remember, but great times!

Saturday was a good day! So I chilled out most of the morning, I was really tired from the game from the night before, hahahhaha I still haven't put those pics up ummmm I might do that after this post. So I went to my all time favorite place , Panera Bread, ( Yes I am in love with this place).Then after this most awesome lunch I spent the rest day with my very cute very smart for 5 years old godson. Ummm can I say Little kids especially this one have loads of energy. I actually think I was sore on Sunday from running around on the play ground with him. We were there for like 3 hours and he only want to play with me. hahahahah I was glad I was able to go down the slides with him. So after that we went to my house so I can do his hair, but I felt bad because he wanted to play with a toy car or train or something and I had none, there are no kids that live my house. Next time we will pack some of his toys. But I had soooooooo much Fun!!!! So until next time.

So the hair Journey continues, I just got tired of it the other week and just decided to take the time and hook my self up with ( my favorite) two strand twist. It was funny though because it took me three days ( I got tired when I got to the back) to do it and no one really notice that I had half Bantu knots and half twist, hahahah or they really didn't care. Well for the winter I want Yarn braids or genie locs so ummm this should be good I will keep you up dated on how it goes.

So I just realized I didn't post my gala hair photos. Well I wasn't really happy with the second time I did them and that day was such a rush I though I look crazy, but none the less here they go... I did have fun though I shot over 1000 images whew! (Thanks Black Onyx) Pastor really enjoyed himself and was very appreciative. It's good to see people show there appreciation for the man of God in this might way.

I am so excited on Saturday I got Football wasted oh yeah!!!! I first I went to the FAMU vs. Hampton game at 3pm then went to the FSU vs. Clemson game and had the opportunity to be a photography at Doak Campbell stadium. I have never been to a FSU game let alone being on the field. My Brother and my Dad were watching from the stands and I was shooting on the field. ( Thanks Daddy!) This was such an exciting experience. Oh and I didn't have to worry about my settings (for those photo geeks like myself lol) The lights were the best ever. I was in lighting heaven. Ahhhhhh

My lens was 70-200mm but I was so freakin close. Yea!

Hair Issues

So I have been having a hair catastrophe for the past week and a half. I could not get it together and I was way too tired to do anything to it. ugh! I just end up wearing a wrap for a week. I was so considering cutting it off I was so frustrated and the flakes the flakes and dry scalp Ugh! I am done complaining. This week is better.

Ok these were ok. They were my first ever flat twist success. Yea! They were so loose I had to take them out like a day later.

Hair growth. My Big afro is causing me some issues now. It won't lay right anymore every time I blow it out it looks like I didn't do a dang thang to my hair and when I try to shrink it down won't lay down tight anymore. Mounting frustrations.

Yea so I just rock this wrap for the remainder of the week. Jenelle's earrings did help me out ;)

Pastor Appreciation 13 years

So it is pastor appreciation week at our church. I have not been about of this church very long but I see why people want to show there appreciation. He is so humble and kind. He said he is a county boy with country roots but he is so anointed. Wednesday Kicked off the first day of this appreciation. It was an amazing service. There was a mime performance and and the Choir always come with there best and a guest speaker who was there when they first started the church. Well it's more services Today and Tomorrow and a Gala on Saturday. The one I am trying to get my hair right for. I will be shooting all weekend again gotta love it.

GALA HAIR

So I have been trying to come up with a style that might be fly for a gala I am working on Saturday. I wanted to make a dress for it also, but haven't had time. But I still have until Saturday, you never know what I might have time to do in between then. I love watching the natural hair You tube videos and channels, Check out my favorite ones here, I have learned how to style my hair, I learned about my hair, how to take care of my hair, products and products I can make for my hair. It's wonderful! I could not find any of this about 8 years ago when I did my big chop( at least that is what they call it now, I just got a hair cut). So this is great! Now I have been 2 years with out my dreads and I have learned more about natural hair care and styling then I ever knew in the 4 1/2 years I had dreads. Anyway back to the gala. I saw this Bantu knot extensions on Black Onyx you tube channel and was in love. Yesterday I attempted it. It turned out well. FAMU HOMECOMING 2010

This is Allied Health. So On Wednesday they judge all the decorated Buildings and Allied Health always does a good job.

Convocation. It was so good this year. The speaker was pretty good, they had some young boys about 7-13 present our president with a poster and they got the crowd all hype up.

The hundred of course. So the game was full of Shenanigans. First during the first Half they decide to do like presentations in between Time outs and Quarters. So they were presenting on award and the referee just start blowing his whistle and going crazy. lol The second quarter was about to start and they were still on the field as they begin to hike the ball. ( Hilarious) 2). So then The Hundred is about the perform and they asked them to restart the clock and were totally ignored. Then When the conductor Dr White was about to get on his later to direct the band they tell the band to stop( clock is still going ) call him off and try to present award to him. So he has to get off the latter ( mind you, His arm is in a sling and he is on the opposite side of the field) and runs to get the award and the band just starts anyway. Hey they have to be off the field before half time is over or we get fined. We don't have time for this. ( Also Hilarious, but a little annoying and Sad). Next the after halftime the band is usually doing the finale of there performance the football teams are on the field in the end zone and the announcer tells the football team the Hundred needs the end zone ( WHAT! REALLY! LOL It's the football team) They moved and started Jammin with "The Hundred", then the referees got the state troopers to move The Hundred off of the field ( WHAT! FOR REAL! It's homecoming, But hey they don't care).

Well this is all that remains in Tallahassee of "The Crew" we will see what happens next year"

This weekend was crazy! FAMU Homecoming! YES it's like this every year. Vendors selling everything hhahahha even shea butter and African Black soap. There is a party going on everyday during the week and the weekend, whew you better just be safe because the cops are roaming as well as the outrageous party goers. Well I was working on Friday so I didn't get to see my cousin and his fiancee and go to the family party.. sigh* They had all kinds of food and every last family member was there but I did enjoy the game and the vendors, as for partying.... ummmm not a hard core party girl. Sorry. My little sister was in town and I know she had fun. Well Homecoming 2010 is over and now we have to clean up the city, clean up the campus and tell Tallahassee Police Department they don't have to have every cop on duty all week. It's time for Florida State Homecoming and hadn't seen a cop yet.

It's about a writer that started a blog in 2002( I didn't even know about blogs in 2002) following her self assigned task of completing Julia Childs book Mastering the art of French cooking. I think it was like 500 so recipes and she wanted to use every recipe through the book in a year and she did it. So the movie was awesome! The Blog is pretty interesting too. Sunday was pretty cool. First I finished my new members Class for the Church I just joined. Family Worship and Praise Center. Oooooo Yea for me! (Smile) Oh Yeah church was pretty great too. Then later on that day I did a walk for breast cancer with my home girl and her basketball team. It was a pretty good Sunday

Friday Night :4Q Gamenight!

Friday Night Lights at Gene Cox stadium. One of the biggest games of the season. Two Rivals Leon Lions vs. Lincoln Trojans. Leon has not beaten Lincoln in 12 years. This game was smoking hot! The stands were packed and I was there in my 4quartersonline.com Gear. Lol or at least the outfit uniform I am trying to put together. I was kinda tired of being kinda blah on the side lines. So I just spiced it up a bit. Girls like football too and we like to look Fly so why not combined them. I am still working on it I will get it down by next year. Oh yeah Lincoln Won, but Leon was leading until a 1:15 in the 4th. Ummmm better luck next year lions. By the way I am Cougar and we whoop up on Columbia High School. GO COUGARS!!!!

In case you are wondering Of course I did not wear the hills while I was shooting. (smile ) just for the pics then I change in to my work boots. It can get muddy out there on the field.

Let's see I had on my 4Q earrings. I had on hand painted silver with black tips with on finger totally painted black with a lime green butterfly. On the other hand the opposite Black paint with silver tips with on finger painted all black. I had on a pink under shirt for breast cancer awareness month and the long sleeve shirt cause man the temperature is dropping at night now. Ummm or and a silver pink blend eye shadow.

This is after the game at Hungry Howies. This is when the staff gets together and eat and talk about all the games we went too. Basically just chilllin out. That's Djawa Our videographer is awesome.

CUPCAKE CAMP

Cupcake camp in Tallahassee. My friend who has a her own cupcake shop in Tallahassee( Bite of your Life) was apart of this wonderful event. Now I told here I saw something similar on Bakarella.
This event was a charity event for the Jessica June Children Cancer Foundation. Click here to read the story. It was cool it had all kinds of interesting cupcakes and they sold cupcake boxes for $5 and you can fill them up with what ever type of cupcake you like. They also had silent auctions. It was so nice. I am glad I had the chance to go. Thanks homie for telling me about it!!!

Minority Enterprise Deveopment

So all last week I attended this conference called Minority Enterprise Development, also cutely named "MED" Week. This Federal Agency promotes the growth of minority business. Click here to find out more about the agency and there might one in your town. Apparently from what I found out they hold a conference on week out of the year( If I am wrong just let me know)
This was like a conference for networking among Minority Business owners in Tallahassee, for the politicians to campaign a little, knowledge and information that would be helpful to just anyone who wanted to attend. It was interesting and very informative. I was unaware of this kind of it's impact in our community. I had a great time and learn a whole lot. So here is the link again so you can check it out. Some important people in Leon County.

This was the first event on Monday. They had a reception for anyone who wanted to come and that own a business. It was hosted by Pinnacle Construction Support Group. They are some good people. This was a networking gathering. My aunt was on of the presenters and gave a workshop the following day. Wow can I tell you I met so many people that had interesting businesses right here in town.

I had to rush home and change into something suitable for meeting important people of the great city of Tallahassee. Can I tell you by the end of the reception my feet hurt so bad . Thank God I had the Flats in the car. Marc did some great networking for 4quartersonline.

Ok Tuesday. Was great filled full of good information in all the workshops. My aunt was on of the presenters. She did quite well. She talked about obtaining and writing grants for your non-profit. She has her own non profit in the ATL.

Wednesday was the last day and they had a luncheon for networking and to end the conference.

I didn't get to stay for the Keynote speaker who I heard was awesome. Ahhhhhhh maybe I will find her online.
End to a great conference maybe I can get more involved next time. Whoop Whoop 2011 !

FAMU vs. Savannah State

So yes we won Finally, but Savannah State is like 0-6 well now 0-7. I heard they have lost in close games too, so it's not like they are a sorry team or anything, but I think they are New to the MEAC and the teams we need to beat we lost badly too soooo I m not sure how I feel about this win. Also BCC, my bad BCU( Bethune Cookman University) is whoop up on teams this year. The Orlando classic should be interesting. I still had a good time. Oh yeah I finally finished my hair after like 3 days of working on it.

I love my school and support HBCUs ( we need to stick together) Oh yeah shout out to local talent on Savannah State. There Quarterback is from the area and he played well.

I have to get some more FAMU shirts for Homecoming. For some reason this is the only one I have and I got it last year Homecoming. I need to do better. sigh

Weekly Wisdoms for the week of October 11, 2010

The dreams of your future have no room for the devastation's of your past.

When Aaron, the brother of Moses, died, the entire house of Israel mourned for him thirty days (Numbers 20:29). However, after those thirty days, the time of mourning was over, and the Israelites had to move on with life.

There is a great lesson in this: you must push beyond the past in order to enter the future -- a future filled with great things God has planned for you. The Apostle Paul knew this, which is why he wrote, One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14).

You may have great dreams for your future, but if you fill your future with junk from your past, then you'll never fulfill your dreams. Therefore, like the Israelites, after a certain period of time, you must decide to forget what is behind and press on toward the things that are ahead.

The storms of life won't harm you if you have deep roots in God.

In Matthew 13:3-6, Jesus told this parable: "A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root." One point Jesus makes in this parable is that people without deep roots in God will fall away from faith whenever persecution or trials come on account of the word (see Matthew 13:20-21).

Similarly, Jesus encourages his followers to build their house (i.e. their life) on "the rock" (see Matthew 7:24-27). Even though the wind and storms beat against that house, it did not crumble because it was founded on the rock. If you have deep roots in God, your life will be built on the Rock—Christ. As one hymn says, "On Christ alone I stand, all else is sinking sand."

It is no surprise, then, that Paul encourages believers to be rooted and built up in Christ, strengthened in the faith (Colossians 2:6-7). If you are strengthened in faith, then you won't crack under the pressure of difficult situations because you will be able to dig deeply into the word of God on which you are firmly grounded. Unfortunately, too many Christians have a cracked foundation.

Make it a priority to have deep roots in God so that you will not wither under the heat of life. Invest time into reading and memorizing God's word, praying, and communing with God. Be rooted in God.

Pushing Through

For the past week I have been in a funky mood. It hasn't been continuous, but no the less it's there. I have been hearing lately, in bible study and on TV that we need to change our thinking and our words are very powerful. I guess like that scripture, Life and Death lies in the power of the tongue. I have been actively trying each day to push out bad thoughts and replace them with good ones or scriptures. Ummm I have to say I am half and half here, but feel as if I am making some progress, I think. Despite how I feel I have been attempting to do the following (If you want help from God you have to do your part too):

1. Smile - Even when I don't feel like it and my insides are wanting to keep frowning. I fight it! If some one is talking to me or addresses me I smile. I have to say this one is easier said then done.

2. Pray- I have to be honest sometimes I just don't feel like it and sometimes I just really don't think that it is working. Ahhhhhhh, the thing is that I know prayer works, I have seen it and experiences it, so guess what, I have no excuse not to pray, so I am relentless. Just because I don't feel like it doesn't mean I shouldn't do it. Sometimes I don't feel like eating but i know I need to.

3. Take Advice- I am stubborn, but since I have been actively seeking God this part has become a lot easier. I say " Hey Janine, don't take offense they are only trying to help." Rack in what you need, Pitch out what you don't. That is what my College Speech Professor use to always say.

4. Chill out- Do something I like that has nothing to do with anything or a project or work. Yes I notice this is how I relax. Sewing something complicated, it relaxes me. Cooking something exotic, it relaxes me. Baking something hard, it relaxes me. Looking at the stars and the moon, it relaxes me.

5. Have a good attitude- Ummmmm another issue. When things are not going well for me I tend to get a bad attitude and want to take it out on some un suspecting someone ( yeah I know totally uncool) So now I have just been helping people. The worse I feel the more I help others. ( It's been working) I have even started to keep the bad thoughts from coming out of my mouth. Now if I can just keep the bad thoughts from reoccurring in my head. ( NEXT BATTLE)

6. Emotions in Check- I have been Checking myself and making sure I don't make any decisions off of my emotions. Hey I realized how dangerous that is. So yes I have been recognizing the emotion and ( check this out) Choosing weather I am going to continue to feel like that. I Know I feel like that but I don't have to continue. I am just figuring this out. But like before it is easier said then done. So ummmmm Working progress....

7. Read my Bible- Yes, reading my bible is hard when you in a funky mood, but that is the time you need to do it. Sigh. Well when I decide to do it always gives me some peace. Yes the issues are still there but hey I can deal with them with a clear head. Words are powerful.

Well I feel like I have been rambling, but here are some of the small things that have been pushing me through.

Three Days +Three Hairstyles=Every Weekend

It seems like every weekend I am rocking like 3 styles. A different on Friday Saturday and Sunday. This weekend is no different. I guess I am trying to figure out what to do with this hair. Well as you saw in the previous post, I had the blow out.... so let the hair style rain begin...

My mom and I went to get Pedicures on Saturday... I love getting them now, it's all her and my sister's fault

Bantu knots or chicken poo poos as we call them in Liberia ( at least that's what my family tells me)

Off to church. So I went to sleep the night before with out doing my hair soooo I didn't really know what to do in the morning. So I just did the knots in the front and picked out the back the best I could.

So my homie is rocking her fresh doo. She always looks fly.

Friday fun continues. So if you don't know I am regular person by day and sports photographer extrondiar by night. I shoot high school football every Thursday and Friday with my dad's company 4Quartersonline.com. So I have been coming up with a 4Q outfit. I have my nails painted in the colors black and silver and I have these sparkling 4Q earrings that i made along with my 4Q shirt. I even have silver and grey make up. YES if you are going to do it, do it big.

Yes, It's a working progress. I am rocking the Blow out but my hair is so light if the wind touches or LIFE it moves out of place. Sigh. I just deal with it though

Yep Marc is steady working on Game night. He is really doing the job of like 5 people.

The end of the night in Madison County.I look crazy, I am going to get this make up right one of these days( it could be the flash), but anyway it was a fun night as always. Now for the 45min drive back to Tallahassee.

End of the night Whew!

I think I am loving those earrings I might make some more. We will see. This processes starts again on Thursday. I love it!

So it seems to me all the cool stuff happens on Pay Day, ( Well not always but this payday was cool) My home girl introduce me to this fabulous local jewelery designer named Jenelle and I was smitten upon first gaze of the jewelery she made. When we step foot on the set....wait let me explain.... Every Friday on Campus there is this area called "The Set" and they have like all different vendors there sell all types of cool stuff, clothes, food, cd's, jewelery and etc. Now when I was in Undergad it was really thick full of vendors, but over the past few years it has dwindled. Anyway I found these awesome pieces and I am addicted sooooooo payday she will be getting a visit. She is super talented and I can not believe we have some really awesome LOCAL jewelery designers here and they are affordable. Yey!

FIRST FAMU HOME GAME 2010

" I'm so glad I'm from FAMU. I'm so glad I from FAMU. I'm so glad I from FAMU. Singing Glory Hallelujah I'm from FAMU" So yes I am a FAMU Alumni and I work there and the Rattlers had there first home game of the season against South Carolina State. This was the team that beat us last year and causes us not to be in the MEAC championships ( I hope that info is correct, if not leave a comment and correct me) So we were ready. Nope! We lost and it was sad. They beat us by 3 field goals and touchdown. All I have to say is great job Defense and we need to do better Offense. ( For Real)

Even though we lost the band did show out even though S.C. State band was totally biting. I love all HBCU's but I did feel a certain kinda way about them calling themselves the marching 101. sigh

Why were there so many of these I got hit with a bunch these. Aren't they are suppose to die in the fall. yuck!

They did a tribute to the late Dr. William P Foster. He is responsible for changing how the HBCU Bands did their have time show and how band were viewed. All HBCU's were influenced by him when you look at what they all do now it's because of him. Just about everyone HBCU Band has a member of the Marching 100 somewhere around there.

Hey I just though this was cool.

If you never hear the Marching 100 check it out, but they are all over You Tube if you want to hear some of the best stuff. I love it

Hair exploration 2

So back on the Hair exploration. I have to admit it's a little exciting. Ummmmm what will I do next or what can I do after watching several YouTube videos by some naturals. Well I think I started on last Wednesday or Thursday and Rocked like three different styles until Monday then I am back to my baby Afro( from the shrinkage of course) So check me out.

Umm I think this is Thursday but I did it on umm may Tuesday and was getting tired of it. My first attempt at larger two strand twist since my hair has grown out a bit. I wasn't feeling them, but everyone else was. The none the less they were being rocked!

So on Thursday I decide to put the Two strand twist in Bantu knots I actually like the way this looked

So on Saturday I had to work the FAMU game ( I loved it first home game of the season) So I did a Bantu Knot out, it looked awful ( nope no pic it really looked crazy) so I just went on and twisted out the two strands also and was so feeling this style. I could not go to the game looking crazy.
Sunday the Bantu knot/ two strand twist out was a day old. This did not last that long before it started looking bad so as I am writing this am rocking the baby fro right now. That is why I like the smaller ones they last longer. Oh well the journey continues...

Hair for the week. So I have rocked three hair styles in the past 4 days whats wrong with me. So check me out

My coil out! I coiled my hair about 2 weeks ago and then last week I took them out and continued to rock the coil out until Saturday. I could not take it any more it was time. I had to attend a funeral and could not go looking like that. In this pic look fine but it went down hill from there.

So sunday Straight up blow out... This is the first time I actually like it. It is humid here so it shrunk a little, but I think it looks pretty good.

Dare To Dream Fashion Workshop

So of course a friend of mine introduced me to this wonderful afterschool program for Girls. It's called Dare to Dream academy for Girls. The Age ranges are from 5-16. This is an awesome place where younger girls can get mentored, tutored, pick up skills and be exposed to everything imaginable about being a girl. High on education and exposing young girls to different cultures, people places and things. Wonderful place! This non-profit organization is ran by Mrs. Kimoyln Ferrell. She is awesome! She is smart and full of so many ideas, I am not sure how she does it all. She has given me an opportunity to share my talents in the Fiber Arts. I am elated that she thinks I would be a help to her. She is helping me out. It is a Fashion Class on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. So I do a workshop on what every my mind can think of and those that know me it 's alot. So I did my first workshop 2 Saturdays ago( I know late post sorry) I had them do some Tye-Dyeing and screen printing. I must say I was quite impressed. These girls were talented and caught on a lot faster then I thought and I think they enjoyed themselves. I hope they learned something. I learned from them what i could do better next time but a working progress for me. Thanks Kim!

I had them do some painting and submersion to give them some range of design and so it would look like something they would want to wear.

We also did some screen printing Techniques with stencils. We also had some puff paint. The girls did a great job.

Oh yes I worked right along with them. I think they were excited because I was so excited.

Alexandria and Bird were working away but there parents came so they could not finish, but a great job non the less
